Serono Symposia International Foundation, the CME provider for the Medical Education initiative on Molecular Targeted Therapy of Cancer (MTTC), will gather in Saint Petersburg, on May 4-5, a team of worldwide recognized oncology experts from different disciplines, in order to take part in the 13th International Workshop on MTTC. This workshop, European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) labeled, is designed to foster extensive discussion of the presented data and to contribute to the improvement of molecular targeted therapy of cancer in clinical practice.
The Medical Education Initiative on Molecular Targeted Therapy of Cancer (MTTC), established in 2001 and headed by the International Education Council (IEC), was developed to provide high quality medical education programs for medical oncologists. Starting from the 1st MTTC International Workshop held in 2002, the IEC created, in the form of a Core Educational Curriculum, the scientific platform for future medical education activities with the intent to regularly update the Core Curriculum through all MTTC activities worldwide.
During this workshop, the experts attending will present the basic mode of action and clinical application of various targeted therapies and will present the latest developments in molecular cell biology in relation to targeted cancer therapy; participants will have an update knowledge of the basics of signal transduction with regard to cancer therapy, the current issues in active and passive immunotherapy, resistance to targeted therapy, and a rationale of novel combination therapies for cancer.
“In targeted therapy we are more and more moving from the application of single agents to combination therapy – said Professor Heinz Zwierzina, Chairman of the IEC and Professor at the Universität Innsbruck Austria - and potential combinations must be based on science and focus on biomarker development. The challenges and accomplishments of this strategy will be presented in this event”.
“As Continuing Medical Education provider, Serono Symposia International Foundation is committed to offer its know-how in an International scenario – said Prof. Christoph Zielinski, member of the IEC (International Education Council) and of the Scientific Committee of Serono Symposia International Foundation - and we are particularly proud to be able to bring together in this scenario the leaders in the field of oncology in order to contribute to the advancement of molecular cell biology in relation to targeted therapy of cancer in clinical practice”.
