Can you explain for us please the incidence of subclinical thyroid disorders, and the populations that are most at risk of developing them?

What determines whether a patient with subclinical thyroid dysfunction progresses to overt thyroid disease? 

The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American College of Endocrinology issued a position statement in 2016 advocating “case finding” for thyroid dysfunction. Can you explain this concept, and where it might have a role to play in a day-to-day GP clinical practice.

Metabolic syndrome is a major public health care issue – what is the role of subclinical thyroid dysfunction in metabolic syndrome?
