Cruickshank Interview - Manila

J K Cruickshank (UK): Cardiovascular complications of pre-diabetes

In your opinion, should everyone be regularly screened for pre-diabetes? And if so, at what age should the screening start and how often should it occur?

Are some ethnic groups more at risk of cardiovascular complications as a result of diabetes or pre-diabetes?

Which therapies for hypertension should be used preferentially in patients with, or at risk for, pre-diabetes?

What is it about the pre-diabetic state that also aggravates the cardiovascular system?

What single intervention would you suggest for everyone to mitigate the chances of developing both diabetes and cardiovascular disease? Perhaps universal screening? Ban chocolate? Outlaw cigarettes?
