Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare disease with a heterogeneous clinical presentation and a median survival of about 3-4 years. The estimated incidence of adult adrenocortical carcinoma is 0.7-2.0 per million per year, are mostly sporadic but may also occur as part of hereditary syndromes. The prognosis varies based on disease stage, histopathology/immunohistochemistry features, surgical resection. The adrenolytic drug mitotane is the main pharmacotherapy for patients with adrenocortical carcinoma. Mitotane acts as an inhibitor of several enzymes involved in the steroidogenesis and has also direct cytotoxic effects on the adrenal cortex. Mitotane is suggested alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutical agents in patients with adrenocortical carcinoma of different stages. However, the heterogeneity of the clinical presentation imposes a personalized approach, balancing benefits with side effects and risks.
This interactive symposium has been implemented to provide attendees with the most recent evidences and recommendations about clinical management of adrenocortical carcinoma. This will be done by discussing real clinical cases with key opinion leaders in the field. Participants will have the opportunity to be engaged and discuss with their colleagues and the faculty the challenges of managing adrenocortical carcinoma at the different stages of the disease.
By attending the live educational satellite symposium participants will be able to:
