Faisal Ahmed graduated from the University of Edinburgh and received most of his clinical and academic training at the Royal Hospital For Sick Children, Edinburgh, University of Edinburgh and at Addenbrookes Hospital and the University of Cambridge. In 2000, he was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow and in 2007 he was awarded the Leonard Gow lectureship at the University of Glasgow. In 2012, Professor Ahmed was appointed to the Samson Gemmell Chair of Child Health at the University of Glasgow. He leads the Developmental Endocrinology Research Group which focusses primarily on two broad fields in endocrinology, sex development and skeletal development and has published about 200 original communications, reviews and book chapters in the field of endocrinology. In addition, he coordinates the International DSD Registry which facilitates international research and clinical networks. Professor Ahmed also currently serves as the Chair of the Science Committee of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology.
