He graduated in Medicine (1977) and received the Board in Neurology (1981) at the Second University of Naples (SUN), Italy. He developed his expertise in neuroimaging at the Neuroimaging Branch, NINDS, NIH, Bethesda (USA) where he spent four year as Visiting Scientist. He became Full Professor of Neurology in 1999 at SUN. Since then he is Director of the Dept. of Neurology. In 2007 he has established the MRI research center at SUN and since then he is leading a group of neurologists and scientists. His research interests cover multiple sclerosis, parkinsonisms, headache, motoneuron disease and dementia. He has published more than 300 papers in peer reviewed journals. He has served as Secretary of the Italian Society of Neurology and is affiliated to a number of national and international research groups (MAGNIMS, NISALS).
