Massimo Filippi (Member of the EXCEMED Advisory Committee) graduated  in Medicine in 1986 followed by a Post-Degree graduation in Neurology in 1990. His research focuses on the use of MRI technology to improve our understanding of how neurological diseases determine progressive accumulation of irreversible physical disability and cognitive impairment. He has also coordinated several international clinical trials in multiple sclerosis. He is currently Associate Professor of Neurology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Director of the Interdepartmental Research Programme “BrainMap”, and Director of the Neuroimaging Research Unit, Institute of Experimental Neurology, Division of Neuroscience, San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy. He is member of various Scientific Societies and, in some of them, he covered or is covering institutional roles. He is also Editor in Chief of the Journal of Neurology and member of the Editorial Boards of many international scientific journals. He is author or co-author of more than 700 scientific papers published on peer-reviewed journals (H index: 76) and edited several international volumes. Prof. Filippi also received the "Rita Levi Montalcini Award" for his research work in multiple sclerosis.
